Central Park Owls

This gallery features original wildlife photography of owls in Central Park, capturing both resident species and historic rare bird sightings in Manhattan.

The owl most often seen in Central Park is the Great Horned Owl, followed closely by the Barred Owl.

Central Park Owls: Barry and Flaco

Much loved, Barry the Barred Owl lived in Central Park for ten months beginning October 2020. Unfortunately, she was killed in a collision with a Central Park Conservancy van on August 6, 2021.

February 23, 2024: Sad news. Flaco, the beloved Eurasian Eagle-Owl, discovered missing from the Central Park Zoo after his exhibit was vandalized a year prior, has died after a collision with a building on West 89th Street in Manhattan. (Note: New photo of Flaco coming soon!)

Owl Sightings

On January 27, 2021, a Snowy Owl was spotted in Central Park for the first time in 130 years!
