Central Park Hummingbirds

For over twenty years I have documented the spectacular wildlife of New York City, transitioning from my classic modeling career to dedicate my life to capturing the birds, butterflies, insects, and flowers of Central Park.

The most common hummingbird in Central Park and NYC is the Ruby-throated Hummingbird, which I have photographed feeding on jewelweed, salvia, cardinal flower, zinnia, bee balm, and trumpet creeper flowers from spring migration, April-May, through fall migration, August-November.

The best spots I recommend for seeing hummingbirds hunting for nectar in Central Park are the Conservatory Garden, Shakespeare Garden, Tupelo Meadow, The Oven, the Ramble, and the North Meadow Butterfly Gardens.

This gallery features my photos of these fast-flying jewels, including a rare June nesting attempt in the park, as well as the historic Rufous Hummingbird - a rare western visitor that arrived across the street at the American Museum of Natural History garden and was feeding on Japanese mahonia.
